Australian Banking Association

Status Tracked

The banks’ industry body. Told the RBA in 2025 that banks strongly support the surcharge ban but asked for no change to interchange settings; on 1 October 2026 its chief executive Simon Birmingham said the change was not a meaningful one, and its surcharging page blames other payments firms if small-business costs do not fall, citing no example.
